A person good at handling people and with a passion for estates can become a good Realtor. A Realtor helps the customers buy and sell properties. The policies applicable for real estate agents differ from state to state.
To become a California Realtor, it is essential for the person to have a real estate license. Real Estate licenses fall in two categories: Salesperson and broker. This license can be obtained only if the person is above 18 years of age.
A proof of residence is mandatory to apply for a license. The application for license is different for residents outside California. After obtaining the sales person license, the person can start working under a real estate broker to gain experience.
Three courses in real estate should be completed by the aspirant at college-level. These courses should equip the student with real estate principles and practice. There are a few elective subjects that the students can opt for including business laws, real estate finance, property management etc.
The next step to becoming a Realtor is to appear for the state exam. This exam tests the candidate’s knowledge of real estate principles as well as proficiency in English. A candidate appearing for the exam has to pay the exam fees.
The candidate, after clearing the exam can apply for a job in an estate consultancy firm. The candidate can continue education even after gaining the license and hone his skills with training. Salaried real estate agents can earn starting from $12500 to as much as $100,000 a year.
